I’m currently helping a local Canoe Club with establishing a website, the intention of which is to raise awareness of what the club does as well as offer a platform with which to communicate with its existing members. The club had a website which fell into disrepair when the administrator at the time left and nobody else was able to pick up on it. The intention with what I am doing is trying make it as simple as possible. I’m using the WordPress platform as a framework to create a community site which isn’t just run by one person but by the club itself in the hope that should I get eaten by the pike in Oulton Broad someone can pick it up.
An early concept can be seen above, in order to appeal to the younger members of the club I thought about the idea of graffiti – it was certainly bold but I couldn’t help but feel it looked too messy – some said that the paint effect looked like spilt milk which pretty much killed that idea for me. I began experimenting with more traditional “surfer” type art as it never seems to really age. The idea that is currently being worked with is below, it involves a full screen backdrop of waves with transparent graphics over the top creating depth as the user scrolls the page. The site is due to be completed within the next month or so as content becomes available and will be fully operational soon after easily in time for the new seaon next year.
